VELOUS was founded in Portland, Oregon — a city that runs, hikes, cycles, and walks its way through life — by three veterans of the global footwear industry. Between them, decades of experience designing, engineering, and bringing performance footwear to market. And one shared frustration: recovery footwear that looked the part but didn't deliver.
Most sandals marketed as "recovery" were built on comfort assumptions, not biomechanical evidence. So we started over.
Built with Science, Not Assumptions
We partnered with Dr. Timothy Mineo, DPM — podiatrist, foot and ankle surgeon, and competitive cyclist — to understand what the foot actually needs after exertion. Not what feels soft. Not what looks minimal. What works.
The result is our patent-pending Tri-Motion Technology: a footbed architecture engineered to support the three natural axes of foot movement — flexion, pronation, and lateral stability — simultaneously. It's the foundation beneath every VELOUS product.

After two years of extensive research, testing, and time on the west coast shorelines, the patent-pending Tri-Motion™ Technology and proprietary triple-density Foamotion Formula foam concept came to life.
Tri-Motion™ Technology focuses on each part of the foot strike motion, and integral to this unique concept is Foamotion Formula foam. Our amazing foam formula provides the exact under foot soft cushioning and bouncy bounce your feet need for optimal comfort to restore, revive, and reenergize.
Why the name VELOUS? It fit the concept. VELOUS comes from the word velocity, and means “the quality of movement”. Health and movement is recovery in motion.
